The Trinovantes, 'the very lively ones', occupied all of Essex and the southern part of Suffolk and later dominated the whole region north of the Thames. Their first known ruler was Mandubracios, a young prince whose father had been killed by Cassivellaunos and who fled to Caesar for help. Coins were minted at their capital, Camulodunon, 'fort of Camulos' (Colchester). Reference: Van Arsdell 1663.
